An integral development |
|
I am convinced that personal development needs to be integral in nature, that is, the whole life and many levels of the human being need to be included and involved in the process of overall change, and that such an approach is much more likely to lead to desired changes. This approach owes a great deal to the work of Ken Wilber, among others. This has a great deal to do with increasing awareness throughout our daily life and finding and transforming fixed patterns or habits of behaviour, thinking, physical activity, and so on. But it also has much to do with changing the habit of resisting what is… We also have to consider the whole of human existence—mind, body and spirit, which involves the subtle anatomy of human beings. To deal with part only is to ignore an integral part and will never allow real development or change. This work is above all inclusive of ‘spirit’ which is inclusive of all else. I believe that any path of development which ignores an explicit recognition of, and work with spirit is by definition very self-limiting. This is not something I’m interested in arguing about, I leave that to the materialist scientists who are still wondering about how to best deny the existence of consciousness! This work is for those who know from their own experience or intuition that Spirit is the context of this world and our lives. Having said that, there is nothing dogmatic about the work. Spirit is by definition all-inclusive, and to insist on a belief or fixed idea about anything is to bolster the problem, namely, how we limit ourselves. Models and beliefs are fine as long as they are used as such and that we are ready to let them go easily as a more inclusive view emerges, as it always will, whether we like it or not. We are evolving beings. |
